Colin Stubley Memorial Trophy

Following the formation of the Stowmarket & District Camera Club, the Committee sought the help and guidance of other clubs and enthusiastic photographers. At that time there were only a few members, no money or equipment; but friends helped. Colin Stubley was one of those friends: A local farmer and a leading member of the lpswich & District Photographic Society, he was always willing to arrange our portrait evenings, providing both the lighting and photogenic models. In addition, the Club was made welcome at his farm and had the free use of Colin's superbly equipped studio.. Colin died during 1982 after a long fought battle against cancer and his death was a great loss to photography Not only was he a benefactor but more importantly a first class photographer. He was a quiet, reserved man, who projected himself through the medium of photography. As a mark of respect and to ensure that Colin's name should always be associated with the Stowmarket & District Camera Club it was agreed that our programme would include a Portraiture Competition, as an annual event. Ron Alexander, Frank Bryant, Ron Chisnall and Webster Robertson presented the Club with a Shield for the competition in memory of Colin Stubley - a friend from the past.
